Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic

Reports have been made of the return of ‘Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’ in a game remake, but is it really back?

Among the many Star Wars adaptations, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is among the most celebrated by fans. Its cast of revered characters, amazing stories, and epic battles are some of the main reasons for its popularity. Moreover, developers did not skip any details by giving each character their own exquisite journeys and arcs.

Nonetheless, Lucasfilm seems to be keen on delving further back into Star Wars' mythos with the High Republic era that now has its own novels, comics, and soon, Disney+ show. Knights of the Old Republic is set nearly 4,000 years before A New Hope while the High Republic era started around 300 years prior, still featuring Yoda. Knights of the Old Republic is a role-playing game that uses the Star Wars D20 rule system, which is similar to the 3rd Edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Character development and combat are handled similarly to BioWare's previous RPGs such as Baldur's Gate series. Combat engine follows similar 'real-time with pause' rules.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

First released in 2013, KOTOR continues to have a dedicated fanbase due to its remarkable stories as well as sequels and spin-offs. Unfortunately, the Star Wars franchise scrubbed its canon clean, effectively removing Knights of the Old Republic from the lore and reducing its overall significance in the franchise.

Many fans can agree that this gives injustice to the game’s characters who definitely deserve better. Revan, in particular, is highly important as his story is what holds Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic together.
